Amtrak is offering a free round trip on the Northeast Regional route to members of its rewards program who complete two trips on that route before March 13.
The Northeast Regional runs from Boston through New York to Washington, with a branch running from Springfield, Mass., through Hartford to join the line in New Haven. From Washington it splits toward Lynchburg, Va., and Newport News, Va. There’s a map and more information here.
It’s a good deal if you make regular trips along this route, but there are several conditions:
- You must be a member of the Amtrak Guest Rewards program, which you can join for free here.
- You must register for the offer by clicking the “register for this offer now” link on this page.
- You must take four one-way trips, spending at least $49 per trip, or two round trips, spending $98 per trip, to qualify.
- You can then follow the instructions to redeem your credits for a free trip on the Northeast Regional between June 1 and August 31, 2010.
If you’re a regular commuter, you can earn up to eight free trips this way. If you’re a big spender, there’s a similar deal — fourth round-trip free — on the Acela. See Amtrak’s Guest Rewards site for all the details.
