An Expert Weighs In On Safety And Pilot Pay

I just read, a few days late, another incisive Ask the Pilot column by Patrick Smith at He analyzes the testimony of U.S. Airways pilot Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger before a congressional committee and explores the question of how pilot pay is affecting airline safety. Smith argues convincingly that this is a problem for the regional carriers more than the major airlines. This echoes a comment another pilot left on this blog recently. If you’re interested, and you should be if you fly commercially, read them. They know what they’re talking about.
