Photographing Your Luggage

I ran across a great idea in a comment on Chris Elliott’s blog. One of Chris’ readers wrote that before he travels, he takes a picture of the contents of his suitcase.

That way he can document what was in the bag if it, or something in it, goes missing.

I use my digital camera to document all kinds of things, including the condition of rental cars before and after the rental. But I never thought of taking a picture of the contents of my luggage.

Of course, you don’t want to pack anything very valuable in your checked bag. Then again, everything is worth something – even those old hiking boots.

(Also, you don’t want to pack the camera in the checked bag, which would pretty much negate the whole procedure.)
