Whacking Huge Hotels

I learned something from a Forbes Traveler piece about the world’s biggest hotels: the MGM Grand in Las Vegas has slipped to No. 2.

Still, eight of the 10 biggest hotels in the world are in Las Vegas. If you’re hankering to stay in one of them, I noted recently that the Luxor (No. 3) in Las Vegas has fares as low as $59 a night (plus tax) for many nights between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

This is one of the husband’s favorite hotels, and he prefers the Pyramid rooms to the ones in the towers. (Last December he got us a lovely upgrade to a suite for $99. )

Although MGM has slipped to #2, in the world, it still is a great honor for one of the finest behemoths in Las Vegas. When I go to Las Vegas, my preferences are Wynn, The Venetian and then Bellagio. Wouldn’t consider the Luxor…too many other great choices and equally as good values.

    Hey Tom,
The hotels you mention surely are beautiful, but they’re outside my price range. I’ve seen the Venetian as low as $119 – and I probably should have jumped at it. But the Luxor often drops rates to $70 and under during off-peak periods.
Of course, if you see prices that low at the Bellagio, you are now obligated to tell me!
Thanks for writing. Viva Las Vegas.
