  • Skybus Gets Closer

    Jeanne Leblanc| May 31st, 2007 3 comments

The Skybus website has a map showing that it’s offering flights to Hartford, which it isn’t. But it’s getting a little closer. Starting July 16, the new airline will offer flights between Columbus, Ohio, and Westover Metropolitan Airport in Chicopee, Mass., and you can buy tickets now for as little as $10.

  • Passengers Behaving Badly

    Jeanne Leblanc| May 31st, 2007 No comments

The bad airline passenger competition is on, and I believe we have a winner. That would be the guy who flew back to the United States from Europe, possibly exposing dozens of people to a rare and extremely dangerous form of tuberculosis, after learning he was infected and being told to turn himself over to authorities for treatment. (Associated Press)

    We also have some runners-up.

Remember the guy who jumped off the balcony of his cruise ship cabin and bobbed around in the Atlantic for eight hours before he was rescued? He just got arrested. If you remember the case, you may be able to guess why.

Allowing travelers to share their photos of distant places is one of the many wonderful things the Web has done for travel. Instead of forcing your photos on bored friends and family, you can share them with much smarter and more appreciative people.

  • The Truth About Flybabies

    Jeanne Leblanc| May 28th, 2007 No comments

The question I raised about the birth certificate of a baby born in flight has been answered, via The Daily Telegraph, by no less an authority than the United Nations: The UN considers a child born in-flight to have been born in the aircraft’s registered country.

I have a theory that most of the American public has forgotten the protocols for mass transit, especially a crucial principle for air travel that I call seat sovereignty.

  • Place Of Birth: Row 16

    Jeanne Leblanc| May 26th, 2007 No comments

Two doctors recently helped a passenger deliver a baby boy aboard a Delta flight from Germany, which leaves me with an important question. How do you list the place of birth on that birth certificate?

  • Lazy Tourists Scoot Around Vegas

    admin| May 25th, 2007 No comments

Just today I was lamenting that I seem to be getting a little, well, heftier. "Back away from the cookies," I sternly ordered myself, to no avail. But then I read this Associated Press story about perfectly healthy tourists renting motor scooters intended for the disabled so that it’s easier to get around Las Vegas.

    Maybe I’m not so bad.
