    United Airlines is offering some low round-trip fares to Detroit and Minneapolis / St. Paul. This unadvertised sale is unusual because these cities are not frequently discounted and because the fares extend well into next year.

    I just saw a story about a new airline called Skybus and another about a new air taxi service. Buses and taxis. I think this terminology is a telling sign of how air transit is stratifying to serve different economic classes.

    I was delighted to read that there’s a move afoot to require flight attendants to get alcohol server training. I figured there was some kind of airline policy against giving out free drinks in coach on domestic flights. Could it be that the flight attendants just have to learn how?

    So here’s the latest idea in airline seating: turn the middle seats backward. The argument is that it gives passengers more room and allows the airlines to pack more seats on a plane.
